Lighting Donates Lighting to 9/11 Park Dedicated to Firefighters.

Bloomberg of New York Dedicates Park, asks that we never forget.

New York City lost 343 firefighters when the World Trade Center
collapsed, and their memory is now permanently enshrined in the recently
dedicated Tribute Park in Rockaway Beach. Acuity Brands Lighting
donated all the lighting fixtures for the park which sits on Jamaica Bay
with a view of the lower Manhattan skyline.
The city of
Rockaway Beach is home to many third and fourth generation firemen, and
it lost 23 men in the terrorist attacks. Within months after tragedy,
the city began planning a memorial park in which the firemen would be
honored. Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City led the recent
dedication ceremony which was attended by many of the victims’
families. “The void in the skyline over my shoulder has become a hole
in our hearts. We must never forget those who were lost and Tribute
Park will help us remember them. I will try to make New York City a
place worthy of this beautiful memorial,” said Bloomberg.
The centerpiece
of the Park is a twelve ton sculpture of a fireman’s hat with the number
343 inscribed on the front, and below it the names of all the firemen
etched in granite. Acuity Brands Lighting donated over 50 fixtures
including Lithonia bollards, Hydrel landscape lighting, and American
Electric and Antique Street Lamp outdoor fixtures.
